Southern Westfjords

In the southern part of Westfjords, you will find villages like Patreksfjörður, Tálknafjörður, and Bíldudalur.   In the nearest future or in 2024, the southern route from both Akureyri and Reykjavik to Westfjords will most likely be the most popular one, due to significant road construction in the area (Þorskafjörður & Gufudalssveit), which will shorten the drive substantially in kilometers and of course, time.

Here you will find one of Iceland's most popular destinations, Látrarbjarg, Europe's largest bird cliff and the westernmost point in Iceland and a home to millions of birds, including puffins, northern gannets, guillemots, and razorbills (Alca torda).
